Today, I would like to introduce the Japanese calendar. Living in Japan, you may hear some unfamiliar calendars.
The period from May 31st to June 4th is called "Mugi no Tokiiaru," which is the 24th month of the 72nd season. The name "Mugi-Autumn" comes from the fact that it is the harvest season for wheat, when the first wheat rolls have ripened to wheat color and the wheat fields waiting to be harvested are all shining in golden color. It is a beautiful calendar that expresses the changing of the seasons by connecting them to nature.
So, what are the 72 seasons? First of all, by dividing spring, summer, fall, and winter into six parts, the year is divided into 24 equal parts, and each season is given an appropriate name, which is called Nijushisekki. The year is then divided into 72, which is called Shichijunikou”, and the current season is the 24th of these, the "Barley Autumn Festival".

さて、今日は日本の暦についてご紹介します。 日本に住んでいると何かいろいろ聞き慣れない暦を聞くことがあると思います。
今5/31~6/4頃のことを七十二候の第二十四侯、「麦秋至（むぎのときいたる）と言います。 初冬に巻かれた麦が小麦色に熟し、刈り取りを待つ麦畑が、一面黄金色に輝き、麦にとっての収穫の「秋」であることから名付けられたとのことです。季節の移ろいを自然に結びつけて表現する美しい暦ですね。
では、七十二候とはなんなのでしょうか？ まず、春夏秋冬を6つに分けることで、１年を二十四に等分し、それぞれの季節に相応しい名がつけられ二十四節気といいます。さらにその二十四節気の各一気(約15日)を約5日ごとに初候、二候、三候と3等分し、1年を七十二に分けたものを七十二候といい、今はそのうちの第二十四侯、「麦秋至」なのです。
