From North to South!

🍁 October 2025 Web Cafe Highlights

While ohanami (cherry blossom viewing) begins in Japan’s south and travels north, momijigari—the art of autumn leaf viewing—moves from north to south. 🍂

In our recent free Nihongo Web Cafe, participants explored this beautiful tradition through two lively breakout rooms. The two rooms dove into the origins of momijigari as a pastime of the nobility and highlighted famous autumn spots from scenic countryside trails to vibrant city parks. Everyone shared their insights and stories, making the session both interactive and heartwarming.

We also played a fun game during the session and now you can try it too! 🎼

Many were especially surprised and amused to learn about the prized matsutake mushroom and just how EXPENSIVE it can be! 🍄💮

Here’s a quick look at what participants said:

  • “Interesting topic and fun interaction!”

  • “I learned new kanji and expressions! Thank you for including the Japanese script.”

  • “Sensei explained every detail so well. I gained so much about autumn and loved the jikoshoukai practice!”

  • “So much new information! It really deepened my understanding of Japanese culture.”

  • “It was exciting to meet native speakers and learn about food, places, and celebrations. It made learning so enjoyable!”

Of course, we ended the evening with a group photo to remember this colorful session together. 📾🍁
