Some everyday customs feel completely normal...until you discover that people in another country do things totally differently!
In our latest Web Cafe, we explored the fascinating cultural differences between Australia and Japan, looking at both everyday customs and travel-related culture. We started with a fun guessing game: participants had to identify the country behind a unique custom.
We also looked at expressions that may seem similar but are used in different situations. For example, did you know that ăăăăăă(yĆkoso) and ăăăăŁăăăăŸăă(irasshaimase) can both be translated as âWelcome,â but are used quite differently in Japan?
The best part? It wasn't just about learning about Australian and Japanese culture. Participants also shared their own experiences and perspectives. One fun example was the different names for McDonald'sââMacca'sâ for some and âMcDoâ for others! đ
Culture becomes even more interesting when we realize that there isn't always just one ânormalâ way to do things.
