さて、日本も少し涼しくなってきましたが、紅葉の季節にはまだ早いですね。
9月は9月23日の秋分の日を挟む前後の期間、9月20日から26日までをお彼岸といい、お彼岸はお墓参りなどをして先祖を供養するとともに、極楽浄土に自分が死んでも行けるように悟りの境地を目指すとされています。
まだ寒くないこの時期には、曼珠沙華（まんじゅしゃげ）が見ごろになります。 曼殊沙華は彼岸の頃に、鮮やかな赤い花を咲かせることから、彼岸花（ヒガンバナ）とも呼ばれます。法華経で曼珠沙華は天上の花という意味もあり、万葉集の頃から歌にも歌われています。
