🌕 Did you know that Japan’s Harvest Moon isn’t just about stargazing? It’s a night full of stories, traditions, and timeless beauty where the moon serves as a stage for mystical legends! In Japan, the autumn moon has long been celebrated through moon-viewing festivals (Tsukimi), where families gather to admire the bright full moon, enjoy seasonal foods like dango (sweet rice dumplings), and give thanks for the harvest.
🔮 But the Harvest Moon is also wrapped in myth and fantasy. One of Japan’s oldest folktales, The Tale of Princess Kaguya, tells of a mysterious girl from the moon who captures hearts on Earth. Fast forward to modern times, and the moon continues to inspire—most famously through Sailor Moon, the beloved anime heroine who draws her strength from the moon itself.
This fascinating mix of festival traditions, folklore, and pop culture is exactly what we’ll be exploring in this month’s FREE Nihongo Web Cafe! ✨
